Emergency FAQ
General ERs often lack specialized ophthalmic equipment. SpecSMART Eye Clinic has hospital-grade diagnostics specifically for the eye, allowing for a faster and more accurate diagnosis.
Immediately flush the eye with clean water for at least 15 minutes and call us while you are en route.
In acute cases, we prioritize your vision. Our expedited insurance clearance protocol allows us to stabilize your condition immediately while our team handles the urgent HMO verification in the background.
You do not need an appointment. Medical eye emergencies are immediately prioritized. Please bypass our online booking system and come directly to SpecSMART Eye Clinic in either Ikoyi or Ikeja. If it is safe to do so, please have someone call us while you are en route so our clinical team can prepare the triage suite for your immediate arrival.
We strongly advise against driving yourself. Symptoms like sudden vision loss, severe pain, flashing lights, or the need for a protective eye shield severely compromise your depth perception and reaction time. Please have a colleague, friend, or rideshare bring you to the clinic to ensure your safety on the road.
Your immediate actions before arriving can prevent further damage:
- For chemical splashes: Flush the eye continuously with clean water for at least 15 minutes before and during transport.
- For foreign objects: Do not rub your eye. Rubbing can cause severe, irreversible corneal scratching. Keep the eye closed or loosely shielded with a clean item (like a paper cup) resting on the surrounding bone, and let our doctors handle the clinical removal.
Yes. Urgent triage and diagnostic assessments are covered under most tier-1 corporate health plans. During an emergency, your immediate health and stabilization are our only focus. While our clinical team fast-tracks your diagnosis, our front desk will directly contact your provider (across our 30+ integrated networks) to handle all HMO verification and authorization paperwork seamlessly on your behalf.
