Glaucoma Management: Preserving Your Vision for Life
Protecting your sight through early detection and expert monitoring
The Silent Thief of Sight
Glaucoma is often called the "silent thief" because it can damage your vision without pain or noticeable symptoms. At Specsmart, our clinical focus is on early detection—identifying microscopic changes in your optic nerve before you ever notice a change in your sight.
Why Early Detection Matters
Vision loss from glaucoma is permanent and cannot be reversed. The earlier we detect changes, the better we can protect your remaining vision.
Advanced Diagnostic Protocol
We don't just check your eye pressure; we perform a comprehensive neurological and structural assessment of your eyes using:
3D OCT Nerve Mapping
We use Advanced Diagnostic Technology to measure the thickness of your retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL).
Computerized Visual Field Analysis
This identifies early "blind spots" in your peripheral vision that are common in glaucoma progression.
Digital Fundus Photography
High-resolution digital maps of your optic disc to track changes over years.
Your Long-Term Health Partner
Expert Monitoring & Care Coordination
Glaucoma requires consistent, expert monitoring. Our lead Optometrist works with you to manage intraocular pressure and, if necessary, coordinate with ophthalmologists for advanced treatment options.
Glaucoma FAQ
No. Some people have high pressure without damage (Ocular Hypertension), while others have "normal" pressure but still develop glaucoma. This is why our OCT scans are so vital—they look at the nerve, not just the pressure.
Unfortunately, vision lost to glaucoma cannot be restored. However, with early detection and proper management, we can almost always prevent further loss.
